前陣子陪友人重看《靈異象限》（Sign）。

英文sign可解釋為「跡象、徵兆」，我覺得此字在本片中更接近「預兆」（premonition）。片中的外星人橋段並非是編劇（兼導演，也是本片中飾演那位撞死牧師娘的肇事者）想表達的重點，那只是一種「未知」的具象與敘述某一事件的背景。重點在於，當我們突如其來面臨某一種未知的現象時，我們是否真能看出那是一種sign？或者當旁人（例如牧師娘）指出某一種現象時，我們是否真能從話語中明白解讀出這個人預示的sign？

我很喜歡在片中的下面這段話。附帶一提，我屬於group number two。

People break down into two groups. When they experience something lucky, group number one sees it as more than luck, more than coincidence. They see it as a sign, evidence, that there is someone up there, watching out for them.

Group number two sees it as just pure luck. Just a happy turn of chance. I'm sure the people in group number two are looking at those fourteen lights [hovering around the big cities, believed as UFOs] in a very suspicious way. For them, the situation is a fifty-fifty. Could be bad, could be good. But deep down, they feel that whatever happens, they're on their own. And that fills them with fear. Yeah, there are those people.

But there's a whole lot of people in group number one. When they see those fourteen lights, they're looking at a miracle. And deep down, they feel that whatever's going to happen, there will be someone there to help them. And that fills them with hope.

See what you have to ask yourself is what kind of person are you? Are you the kind that sees signs, that sees miracles? Or do you believe that people just get lucky? Or, look at the question this way: Is it possible that there are no coincidences?
